Seasonal Shifts: How to Stay Energized and Well

You may already be feeling a shift in your routine, mood, or energy levels with the cooler weather and the change from Daylight Savings. With any seasonal or life transition, it’s important to refocus on your pillars of health, taking note of what’s working well and what could use improvement. As we move into fall and the holiday season, our Houstonian Club experts are sharing a few tips to help you stay balanced and mindful. Our team is always here to support you and help you get to a healthier place!
  • Personal Trainer Matt McCullough says, "Even with the weather changes, get outside. Shoot for a minimum of 15 minutes of sunlight per day, but even just 5-10 minutes can radically improve your mood and increase your energy and health. Prioritizing daily sunlight can help your circadian rhythm, in turn helping you sleep better at night.”
  • Personal Trainer Carleigh Patenaude says, "When motivation dips, especially in darker or colder months, routine and community become even more important. I recommend prioritizing exercise that you look forward to, focusing on workouts that boost your energy without draining it. Think strength training, low-impact conditioning, yoga, or mobility-based sessions that help you reconnect with movement and reset your mindset.”
  • Personal Trainer James Hardy says, "With cooler weather it is even more important to get a good warmup. A warmup is literally warming the muscles up to make them more pliable and able to contract easier. Doing simple stretches, light yoga poses, or basic mobility work can aid in waking up and warming your body up for the day ahead. Also, be aware of your hydration in the cooler months. It’s easy to realize that you are thirsty during summer workouts, but it’s harder when your body is cold. Aim to get an adequate amount of water throughout the day and especially during your workout.”
  • The Covery by The Houstonian Club also has multiple therapies to assist with recovery and support. PEMF (Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field Therapy) helps with mood boosting; this technology uses electromagnetic fields that are applied to the entire body with one of the benefits being better mood to combat seasonal depression. While red light and infrared sauna can combat the shortened daylight hours we experience outside.
    • Both Red Light Therapy and PEMF also increase mitochondrial function and elevate the ability to store energy in the body, as lack of physical activity can cause more fatigue.
