Tennis Tip of the Month:
To add speed to your groundstrokes, use your body rotation with the swing instead of relying only on your arm. Power starts from the ground up, with hip and shoulder rotation working together to create an effortless pace through the ball.

Mike May: Padel Tip
Mike May has worked at The Houstonian since 1994 and took over as Director of Racquet Sports in 2002 and stayed in the Director role until 2023. Mike also has a passion for writing and is the author of the book "iZone Formula” which focuses on the instincts that prevent an athlete from achieving their goals. Mike also has an extensive background with Padel having competed for The USA Team at the World Championships 12 times between 1994 – 2018.

Padel Tip of the Month:
One of the most important things in padel is shot tolerance. It’s your ability to stay in the point longer than your opponent. A consistent player is thinking and building points, not reacting and giving points away. Stay in the rally and wait for a mistake. Set a goal like putting ten balls in play every point before going for a winner. No one complains about a Padel partner, being too consistent!

Pickleball Tip of the Month:
After your return of serve, aim for a deep, controlled shot to the baseline. This gives you and your partner time to move up to the kitchen line in sync. Practice this together at your next session, and you’ll see how taking that steady pace puts you in control of the net.
