Outdoor Exercise at The Houstonian Club

Many businesses in 2020 have had to innovate in order to provide services and amenities while complying with current Covid-19 restrictions. With our beautiful, wooded 27-acre campus, we are fortunate to have so many outdoor spaces to provide functionality and enjoyment to our Members. 

During the pandemic, some of our Members have felt more comfortable and have gained a new appreciation for utilizing our outdoor facilities. We have seen an uptick in Racquet Sports and Aquatics usage over the last 8 months and many of our Members have been enjoying our coveted 8/10 mile walking trail to keep up with their daily cardio routine. 

In addition to these options, we recently added an Outdoor Group Exercise schedule of classes. These classes include many of the favorite Group Exercise formats, and the schedule is available on the MindBody App where reservations can be made.  

Personal Training is also a wonderful option for outdoor workouts and is being offered on the Performance Zone and on the Tennis Plaza Green. Sessions with a trainer can be scheduled by contacting Travis Hudnall at thudnall@houstonian.com

On the social side, our Hotel has offered picnics on the Meadow, and our Sunset, Suppers and Sounds series at Arbor Grill offered an original and creative way to have a socially-distanced event. These have been so appreciated and loved by our Members that we plan to continue similar offerings in 2021.

Many of our Members are enjoying some of these additional outdoor fitness options for adults and kids including:
  • Outdoor Workout Pods on the Tennis Plaza Green
  • Spin bikes available for use on the Chaise Lounge deck between the Sports Pool and Arbor Grill
  • Outdoor Bouldering Wall for kids (between Court 9 and the outdoor trail)
  • Outdoor Playground (on the Tennis Plaza Green)
