Be Kind

As simple as that sounds, when we get rushed and we may not be as respectful of others as we normally are. Whether it's while driving on campus or in the garage, not picking up after themselves or using common courtesy, some members have not taken other members or guests into consideration when it comes to their feelings and rights.

Now is a good time to stop and consider our own actions, and how we can improve them when it comes to how we recognize and treat others. Respect is a fundamental ethical value, but its moral implications are not always obvious.

Simple things to take into consideration:
  • Be watchful for pedestrians coming from all directions! With The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa such a large and complex property, people will be walking on the walking paths, in the roadways to cross from one building to another, or even in the street. Always give them the right-of-way.
  • At the same time, be aware of other vehicles. It is too easy to get into an accident; less easy to get your car repaired. Make sure you show respect by allowing others to cross or go ahead of you. It only takes a couple of extra minutes.
  • Watch your speed and your driving in the garage. You may not notice a young child darting out from behind a car, or someone needing assistance. Always be aware of your surroundings – and yourself – in the garage.
  • Be sure to clean up after yourself when you are done. While The Houstonian Club has a wonderful staff to take care of your towels and other needs, it is common courtesy to put your towel away in the basket when you are done, and throw your trash in the trash cans. Remember, you wouldn't want to arrive at the gym seeing trash or towels strewn around. Leave it for others as you'd like to find it.
  • On that note, treat others as you would want to be treated. If you see someone with one item to purchase (to your many) at Center Court or in The Shop, perhaps you can offer that he or she go ahead of you.
  • Likewise, be respectful of others by turning the volume off on your cell phone while in classes, at the spa or anywhere in The Club. Never FaceTime or speak loudly on the phone while in the Club and especially while in the locker rooms.
Sincerely,
The Houstonian Club
