A Lesson on Swim Lessons

Summer is on the horizon and now is the time to set up swim lessons! At The Houstonian Club, we offer many lesson types including: private, semi-private, group, and camp lessons. Knowing what environment your child learns best in will be crucial in finding the right fit. Let’s quickly walk through some of the benefits of each swim lesson option.

Private lessons are a wonderful choice for those with sporadic or limited availability, and for children who may be shy/fearful or just prefer one-on-one attention. Private lessons are tailored to the availability of the Member and instructor, making it the most flexible lesson option. The one-on-one time offered can be extremely beneficial if your child is more of an introvert or if they require a special style of learning (play, kinesthetic, solitary, intrapersonal, etc.). Private lessons cost the most due to the flexibility of scheduling and the 1:1 instructor-to-child ratio.

Semi-private lessons are also a great choice for those with limited availability, but with a child who learns from watching others. This lesson style typically yields the best results with children who are either nurturing in nature or slightly competitive (examples: a child who is slightly hesitant, but will do it to show their friend it’s not scary. Two children who work harder when they’re in a lesson together because neither wants to be the last one).

Group lessons are designed for families who like structure. These lessons give you an amazing rate because there are more children in the class at a set time. Group lessons can be incredibly beneficial for an extroverted child and a visual learner. Depending on the personality of the child, it can also be a great environment for someone hesitant to learn. When surrounded by children who are excited and not fearful of the water, they can find encouragement. A downside to group lessons is that with more children, there is less one-on-one time for each child.

Splash Camp is a weeklong, intensive group lessons session, held from 1 to 1:45 p.m. This is an excellent choice for those who already intended to put their children in a Houstonian Club camp this summer. The repetition of having class every day at the same time helps children who have a short retention span. Splash Camp is also the best rate as it has the highest ratio with a set schedule. This environment is ideal for children who perform best around their peers. As most children will be coming from other camps, they build relationships that will help them during the lesson.

So whether your child learns best one-on-one or in a group, The Houstonian can help your child be water-safe and improve their technical skills this summer!
