  •  Renovation Update 2.26.22:

We wanted to thank you for your feedback as we have embarked on our 23.5 million dollar renovation of our Club. The Houstonian takes Member feedback seriously and we value your support as we navigate these changes, particularly when it comes to your group exercise experience.

After meeting with our Forney Construction team and architects, we have been able to make some significant changes to our Phase 2 plan in order to move the Strong Studio to the first level of the Club. The new Strong Studio will move to its new location directly across from the Move Studio. This move will enable us to offer our Members the tranquil, yogic experience the Breathe Studio was built to offer. The newly designed Strong Studio will have higher ceilings, superior sound performance, added class formats, and bathrooms conveniently located nearby.

Classes will continue in the current Strong Studio until the new studio is ready. We anticipate that this space will be completed with the rest of Phase 2 in late summer 2022. Our team greatly appreciates your patience and understanding as we continue to improve.
  •  The temporary Kid's Gym is in the former Resident Fitness Center adjacent to the indoor track in the main fitness center.
  • Phase 1 of the renovation has officially opened as of October 18! Click here to see more information on what was completed during Phase 1.

The Houstonian Club is getting a total renovation in 2021! These upgraded areas will enhance the warm and inviting atmosphere that inspires motivation, dedication and achievement.

Enhancements include:

Members will experience a spectacular, new entrance to the upstairs fitness center, via an expansive staircase lit by a new skylight from above and which enters onto an indoor, turfed performance zone approximately the size of a tennis court. This area will offer a wider variety of personal training options and will be available for Member use. Archways surrounding the upper fitness center area will allow visibility of this space from below.

The indoor basketball court will be relocated but will remain an indoor air-conditioned basketball court. We will be using the same type of neo-shock, wood flooring we have in the existing court and the basketball court will be approximately the same size as the current court and will have two viewing areas. (Completed and opened on October 18, 2021)

The Resident Fitness Center has been upgraded and relocated so Resident Members have a beautiful view of the outdoor pools and foliage. This was opened on July 28. 2021..

We will have indoor/outdoor separate adult and family-friendly dining in a beautiful, relaxed environment overlooking the pools. The adult area will include a fully appointed, indoor bar, and adult outdoor deck and the family dining will allow access to our family-friendly deck and the Resort Pool.

A new grab-n-go juice bar will open with seating next to the brilliantly lit atrium and will proudly serve Starbucks®.

The Club will offer Members a larger, luxurious shopping experience in the newly appointed Shop and pop-up structure adjacent to the restaurant.

We’re excited to have a comfortable gathering place for socializing and relaxation with fellow Members, with a variety of multi-purpose seating options under the skylight of the atrium.

The three larger custom-designed studios equipped with state-of-the-art sound, lighting, surfaces, and storage will greatly enhance the group exercise experience. Yogis will be able to relieve stress and connect to their senses, as they gaze upon nature through the beautiful outdoor window. Our group exercise participants will have designated spaces to gather and socialize before and after classes.(Completed and opened on October 18, 2021) The new cycle studio, Surge, was opened on January 10, 2022 and creates an all-encompassing cycle experience. Surge is now located off of the main fitness center adjacent to the indoor track.

The Kid’s Gym will be surrounded by windows, and adjoin the newly modernized Bungalow space providing an open and visible span between both play spaces. A custom-designed Ninja-warrior fitness structure is planned for the newly appointed Kids’ Gym space. Added convenience with dual check-in stations for both areas and a designated stroller parking area. (The Bungalow opened on March 23, 2022)

Attractively designed gathering spaces, including a card room, will be updated and reappointed.

Two superbly appointed, brand new meeting rooms opened on January 10, 2022. Our two new meeting rooms are named after the Lantana flower and the Monarch butterfly that inhabit the beautiful butterfly garden that both rooms overlook. Natural light filters through both rooms creating an inviting and inspiring space for your next private meeting or small gathering.

Aesthetic and inspiring common areas such as the Lobby, Welcome Desk, and reception areas will welcome you each day with more seating and get-together areas. Light will pour into the entrance and flow into the existing Rotunda, designed to preserve the history of the Club with updated flooring, lighting, paint colors and furnishings. Please click here to see our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) webpage for additional information.

Green Initiatives:

Forney Construction is proud to be the General Contractor performing the renovation at the Houstonian Club. With a project of this magnitude, there are many opportunities to provide sustainable materials, as well as making environmentally conscious design choices. This starts right from the beginning, with demolition, and continues throughout the remainder of the project.
During demolition, any materials that can be recycled are removed and taken to the proper recycling facility.
Throughout the redesign of the Club, LED lighting technology is replacing incandescent lighting, which drastically increases the longevity of each lamp (bulb) by more than 25 years. The use of occupancy sensors and dimmable fixtures throughout the building takes that lifespan even further. These components reduce the amount of energy these fixtures are using by about 75% when the room is unoccupied, further contributing to the sustainable considerations made for the project.

The use of recycled materials is yet another way sustainability has been thoughtfully considered in the Club’s transformation. For example, the new flooring at the Kid’s Gym, Resident Fitness, Multi-Purpose and other areas.  This flooring material is constructed using recycled rubber flooring materials, while still providing a multifunctional high-performance floor that is durable and provides improved ergonomics, acoustical benefits, and shock absorption. All key qualities to making it the perfect application for The Houstonian Club.

The exterior modifications to the Club include the Dining Deck and lush landscaping. All landscapes will match the look and feel of the Houstonian Campus, highlighting mature trees and creating beautiful green areas. The addition of plants and trees means more than just beautifying an area. The Earth benefits from this foliage as oxygen is produced and pollutants are filtered to clean the air.
